And here's another take on stress and MS

August 23, 2007 by Rosalind Joffe 1 Comment

A reader, Jackie from Connecticut, sent me this link to an article in WedMD, “Stress,Violence May Make MS worse”.

Geez. Are you surprised that violence would be bad for someone’s health? Or that it would aggravate an already weakened body? I’m not. But the interesting item in the story was the reference to their choice of using bullying mice. Jackie wrote that it reminds her of how difficult a bullying supervisor can be.

I agree. Which is why any of us with chronic illness want to be sure that, although we want to keep working, girlfriend, we want to stay away from toxic environments!

I like the way you think! I for one refuse to roll over and be bored so am working full time. Unfortunately, my sister and I note that we tend to drive ourselves to exhaustion and always feel like things are undone/behind schedule. It comforts me (for many reasons) that she does not have MS – but she does have two children, one of whom is handicapped, a therapy practice, and a full-time job . We are aware that we are a) trying to prove something and (b) are driven by economics. But there needs to be a balance; I keep thinking that balance is just around the corner, but right now that seems to be a mirage.

So thank you for your newsletter; I find it very comforting and supportive.
