Presidential Candidates stand on healthcare

November 3, 2008 by Rosalind Joffe 5 Comments

A reader told me that Web MD has put together a comprehensive chart to compare how the candidates stand on health issues. This is useful information!

Here are some questions for you:

  • Would you vote solely on one issue – this or any other?
  • Would you vote for a candidate who supports your issue but you don’t agree with this/her stand on any other issues?
  • Do you think it matters what a candidate says about an issue during an election?
  • Do you believe that because a candidate says he/she supports an issue during a campaign, that he/ she will continue this support if elected?

Don’t forget the Women Work and AutoImmune Disease book tour starts Monday Nov 3 at Rhymes with Migraine!

The link to “rhymes with migraine” doesn’t work.

HealthCentral has also put together a comprehensive comparison of the candidates’ views on health issues:

It’s important to me if a candidate is concerned about preventing and managing chronic illnesses. It’s unlikely any candidate can deliver on all his promises, but it’s important for me to know what his intention is, that he is at least trying to implement something to make coverage available to people with ci’s. But I’m prepared in advance to “manage expectations” as to how much of that idealistic plan can actually happen.

In response to the questions in your post, it is important where a candidate stands on health care, but there are other issues (for me) that are non-negotiable that would cause me to vote one way or another. Also, I truly believe that health care won’t be fixed until we get a congress and a president willing to do it. So like Christina, I manage my expectations on almost all the issues and vote for who I feel will do the best job.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
